Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature[a]will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (Gal 6:7-10)

Dear Warriors,

Be encouraged and continue to fight. Excel and do well in everything, not just the things you enjoy doing. Work hard in sowing so that you will be filled with joy on the day you reap. Looking back, we rejoice over our recent achievements. Our BBAQ team trained hard and won a silver honor roll with good timing for their race. Our BB week collection far exceeded the target set for us by the BBHQ. Pause and think, did all these happen on their own or by chance? It is not difficult to appreciate that all these resulted because someone SOW. Someone SOW his time, his efforts to make this happen. Every second in the Adventure Quest is achieved through tough training and perseverance. Every dollar given in the BB week is because someone took time to ask and solicit donation. Someone sow. We all reap.

Wisdom is the ability to live life skillfully. This wise principle of sowing and reaping transcends to every area of our lives. While it is obvious and logical to most of us that we reap what we sow, the world is full of fools who chose to sow little and reap even lesser. Do not be deceived that you can sow little and reap much. Put in your 101% and you will learn that the process is more beautiful than the ending. While we press in to overcome the challenges in the exams, let’s not forget our fellow warriors. Support, help, bless, buy someone a drink or write someone a card. You can be strong individually but you will be stronger when you come together. Fight on!

Hush now..

Silence Examination In Progress...

Do not flip over your paper until you are told to do so. Read the instructions carefully.

Hey Warriors, relax relax. I know many of you may be stressed during this period of time. And I want to bring a word of encouragement to all of you: You will reap what you sow! Whatever effort you put into your studies will bring you closer to excellence. Don't be distracted by things like TV, Computer games, PSP and doing things that won't get you the grades. Its time to focus. Just like how you trained hard & fight easy, now study hard & play easy.

Please note that there will be no more parade for now till after your exam. The next parade will be on 17 May, Sat.

My prayer is that each and everyone of you will do well in your exams. May the Lord bless you in your memory, guide you in your exam preparations and multiply whatever remaining time you are left with. May He bless you with a focused mind and disciplined will to take this time seriously. I pray that your time would be spent in a fruitful and purposeful manner.

I would be praying the best for you. All the best (no such thing as luck). God bless you

Adventure Quest

WELL Well well... Who do we have here? What are they doing. Hmmm is this the First team of Boys that we sent for Adventure Quest? Oh yes, they participated in relay in AQ2006. This was in their Sec 2s. But looks like these photos were taken in the 70s. Haha.

Richard, Clive, Si yao & Lewis (Left to right)

Last year, we sent more Boys to take part in the Boys team (4) and the Relay team (12). Altogether a total of 16 Boys participated in AQ2007. It was a good learning lesson and first time experience for many.

Finally, this year's team has completed the race in good time on the 05/04/08. The Captain of this team is Dennis who is experienced in a few Adventure races. And he trained together with CSM Lewis, Casey, Keng Hwee, Aaron, Qing Xiang and Munshi. Dennis and Lewis were even involved in a Race held by SAFRA Adventure (50km). Both of them are rather seasoned racers. The rest of team devoted themselves to the training regime. They have been told to "Train hard, Fight easy!".

Keng Hwee, Casey, Dennis & Lewis (Left to right)

I would also like to give special thanks to the reserves - Aaron, Qing Xiang and Munshi. These were Boys that strived on with every training knowing that they can be called upon with any of team player is down. What an important role!

Three important attitude these racers carried along with them through the race:

1. To Be Thankful - Don't Complain

2. To Be Victorious - Don't be Complacent

3. To Be a Blessing - Don't be Selfish

How many of you will be there next year to represent our Coy?

I have attached a picture of an athelete who is Olympics Gold Medalist in hurdles. And he says 'Always turn training into a game '. This guy is a WINNER. Liu Xiang is victorious because of his mindset. Every warrior must have a Victorious mindset. I believe anyone can do great things if they focus and discipline themselves in the small things.

A land which slowed me down for an hour

It was amazing to watch sunrise in Siem Reap, Cambodia and sunset in Farrer Park, Singapore all within a day. This trip allowed me to see how God loves us regardless of nationality and establishes His work in another part of the world. We are witnessing the birth of the Boys’ Brigade in Cambodia. More than a physical building, it is the lives we are building now. A birth is always accompanied with pain and discomfort but the joy at the end will make all these efforts worth it.

Cambodian time is an hour behind Singapore time. Besides checking out the Boys’ Brigade Learning Centre (BBLC) in Siem Reap, my other agenda was to break away from an unhealthy stress cycle at work. It was truly a good time of rest and reflection as time was pushed back for AN HOUR.

A Quick Report of What We Have Done:

Day 1–
We reached Siem Reap at 0700hrs (Cambodian time). Visited an orphanage (named 4 Squares) after our first Khmer (another word for Cambodian) breakfast. Headed to BBLC and caught up with Reuben who is the Singaporean staff in charge of BBLC. He teaches all the classes. We tied down our schedule and had lunch with the YMCA-ITE group who was there serving. Left for town and check into our hotel for our first night in Siem Reap. Guess what, after shower, we slept through dinner time all the way to the next morning. That was how tired we were. Accumulated fatigue from Singapore.

Day 2 – We did our work in hotel room and had our discussion about what we have observed and briefly put down possible program for actual trip. Jason, the admin staff picked us up after lunch and brought us to check out the local clinic and hospital. We visited another orphanage known as Sunrise Children’s Village. We then checked out the possible R&R places like the flea market (Old Market), Pub street and ended the day with a USD 5 international buffet with a cultural performance. Cheap and good!

Day 3 – We had our final discussion about our learning about the Cambodian community and fine tune our program at the BBLC. After our lunch, we headed to BBLC to observe the Saturday classes. We conducted drills, played games and shared devotion. We stayed overnight there before leaving for Singapore on Sunday morning.

My Personal Reflection:

Serving in BB led into deep reflection about my direction in life. I started leading 99th Company during a time when I just entered in my working life. I did my career switch into youth work as a result of my experience in BB. After a few years, we have established many things in this company and sometimes they can become distractions to what I have set off to do. This visit to BBLC brought me back to what I have set off to do. When I looked at the little boys who joined the program at BBLC, they reminded me of my childhood when I was touched and developed by Christian men and women who gave their time to build Christian manliness in me. I was once again convinced that the 99th Company is called to serve others, to reach out rather than to exist for itself. The history of Cambodia showed us that love is powerful and it cannot be hindered by any principalities or forces of this world. I see the rising of a new generation of Cambodian youths who can bring the nation to the next lap.

Warriors, we are privileged to be involved in this journey together!
