Loving Cambodia

.
Dear Warriors,

It has been a week since we were back from Cambodia. Project Love Cambodia has been a great success not just with the team of 13 boys, 5 officers and 1 teacher going there but with the entire spirit of the 99th Company to serve others. This is yet another milestone we have crossed together in our journey together. This coming Sat we will receive our JM Fraser Award (Bronze) for the second year running. I believe our progress is more than just the level of awards we are receiving but the depths of our knowledge, skills and values we have acquired over time.

I’m proud to see each of our warriors thriving more than surviving in the trip. Living in a Cambodian village in Puok District is not a child’s play for city dwellers like us. But I see each warrior working hard to overcome as their focus shifted from the discomfort they faced to the work they need to do. At the end of our stay at BBLC, I saw how much some have connected with the Cambodian youths and for the others moved out of your comfort zone to serve. The following are some reflections from the 13 warriors who were there:

The Cambodians are really friendly…..I have actually learnt….it is not how good you are on the outside but on the inside. - Ng Jun Hao

For the Cambodians, they are already very happy that they have tables and chairs in their classrooms although they do not have fans and lights. However, the Singaporeans whine when the fans are off…
I have become a more confident person as I have been forced to conduct classes. This has been a very interesting trip for me. - Munshi

What I have learnt…To be thankful for what I have and not to be selfish …
- Sam

To be a star, we will have to step out of our comfort zone. - Brandon Loh

I always wanted things from my parents but through this trip, I appreciate the things I have in Singapore…. - Ke Yang

They love studying although they have no light or fan…they still study no matter what…. - Brandon Ng

We have to appreciate the things and environment around us and not taking them for granted and to be contented with the things we have. - Aaron

I became thankful of whatever I have…..I am also sad to leave my Cambodian friends. I hope to go to Cambodia next year and try to serve them better….. - Danial

2 weeks there, I needed the help of many and I also helped others. In the past I did not have the initiative to go and do things. Now I am more willing to be the person helping out. - Ambrose

I have more courage now because I am better when I speak in the public… - Quek Jun Hao

I have learnt to be more proactive with other people such as talk more than just keeping quiet with them….
- Ng Ming Chuan

When I first arrived in Cambodia on 3rd June, I was not very confident to speak up in front of a large group of people. On 7th June, I think that I’ve changed by becoming more daring to speak up. - Tan Chee Yoong

Before the trip I was afraid what might the Cambodians think of me during that time in BBLC. When I started to talk to them I felt a bit comfortable despite the language barriers. In my opinion, I felt that language barrier was no longer an obstacle at all. - Qingxiang
